Council and partners prepare for potential flooding in Lochaber

The Highland Council and multi-agency partners have met today to prepare for the potential of flooding in some areas of Lochaber.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for high winds in this area and SEPA has issued flood warnings for Fort William, Corpach & Caol. Modelling is predicting a surge of 1.2metres on top of High Tide levels around 20:00hrs tonight  (13/01/20). Based on this information, it is anticipated that there is a potential that coastal flooding could occur at Caol & Corpach and the Crannog Restaurant and nearby area in Fort William.

The Council will be deploying sandbags and floodgates this afternoon at the most vulnerable properties with the potential to be affected. The Council, NHS Highland and British Red Cross will be activating Care for People plans which include preparing a Rest Centre in the event that this may be needed.

The Council and partners will be monitoring the situation for the remainder of the day and overnight, ready to respond to any impact.
