Local Action Grants for Young People

Young people in the Inverness area are being encouraged to apply for grants of up to £500 for projects aimed at helping them become more involved in their local communities.

The Inverness Area Youth Forum has secured £2000 from The Highland Council’s Local Action Fund to distribute to young people identified as being in areas of high deprivation or youth crime in the Inverness area.

Youth Participation Worker and YouthBank Co-ordinator Vikki Trelfer hopes young people will come forward with their ideas on how to spend the grant money. 

She said: “Anyone aged 11 to 21 with an idea for a project that will benefit their local community or just something to help get young people off the streets and doing something worthwhile can apply. People can be as creative as they like in thinking up projects.  We can also give advice and support so anyone interested in finding out more should give me a call on l 01463 229209 or text 07795 304 941.

Previous successful projects include:

• a grant of £500 to Hilton based street drumming group, Rhythm Review to buy 3 more drums so that more young people could take part.
• £475 awarded to Charleston Youth Café to buy music equipment for the youth club to use and share with other groups.
• Merkinch Street League was awarded £500 to help towards the cost of taking part in a 3-day football festival in Ayr at Easter.
• Raigmore Youth Club was awarded £100 towards the cost of a trip to Fairburn Activity Centre to improve the young people’s health and fitness and to learn new skills.
