Mòd Academy event at Muirtown Primary School, Inverness
Tha Sgioba na Gàidhlig aig Comhairle na Gàidhealtachd ag obair còmhla ri Fèisean nan Gàidheal agus An Comunn Gàidhealach gus pròiseact Acadamaidh a’ Mhòid a leasachadh, gu h-àraid ann an sgìre Inbhir Nis a thoiseach air Mòd Roinneil Inbhir Nis agus am Mòd Nàiseanta Rìoghail a bhios air an cumail ann an Inbhir Nis san Ògmhios agus san Dàmhair.
Tha Acadamaidh a’ Mhòid ag amas air sgoiltean Foghlam tron Ghàidhlig agus sgoiltean Foghlam tron Bheurla a tha air a’ Ghàidhlig a thaghadh mar dhàrna cànan a bharrachd (C3). Airson Ionnsachadh Cànain 1+2 cuiridh a’ chlann agus na daoine òga eòlas air cànan a bharrachd bho P1 air adhart (Cànan 2 no C2). Tha dàrna cànan a bharrachd air a thoirt a-steach bho P5 (Cànan 3 no C3). Bidh am pròiseact cuideachd air a lìbhrigeadh ann an sgoiltean a tha airson taic fhaighinn le bhith ag ullachadh dhaoine òga airson a’ Mhòid.
Tha am pròiseact an-dràsta a’ cur oidean air dòigh gus oideachadh a lìbhrigeadh ann an ionnsachadh is cleachdadh na Gàidhlig, òrain Ghàidhlig, seinn chòisirean Gàidhlig, bàrdachd, agus cluiche còmhlain-chiùil. Bidh an t-oideachadh a’ buntainn ri clàr-obrach is farpaisean a’ Mhòid agus com-pàirteachas sa Mhòd.
Bidh An Comunn Gàidhealach a’ lìbhrigeadh sreath de thachartasan Togail Aire Òigridh a’ Mhòid ann an sgoiltean na sgìre.
Thuirt Iar-Phròbhaist Inbhir Nis, an Comhairliche Graham Ros, “Bidh pròiseactan a bhrosnaicheas ionnsachadh, cleachdadh is com-pàirteachas a thaobh cultar na Gàidhlig a’ neartachadh eòlas ionnsachaidh dhaoine òga. Tha mi an dòchas gun gabh sgoiltean an cothrom gus com-pàirt a ghabhail ann am pròiseact Acadamaidh a’ Mhòid seach gu bheil e a’ tabhann fìor dheagh oideachadh mar ullachadh airson prìomh fhèis na Gàidhlig.” Lean e air adhart, “Tha a’ Chomhairle ag aithneachadh gu bheil buannachd shòisealta, chànanach, chultarail is eaconamach an lùib na Gàidhlig anns a’ Ghàidhealtachd.”
Thuirt Janice NicRath, Ceannard Bun-Sgoil Bhaile an Fhraoich, “Tha sinne, aig Bun-Sgoil Bhaile an Fhraoich fìor thoilichte gun deach iarraidh oirnn Acadamaidh a’ Mhòid a chur air bhog airson na bliadhna sa.” Lean i air adhart, “Tha pàirt fìor chudromach aig a’ Ghàidhlig ann an cultar is dualchas na Gàidhealtachd. Tha e sgoinneil gu bheil sinne a’ faighinn taic mar sgoil gus com-pàirt a ghabhail sa Mhòd ionadail agus nàiseanta, agus gu bheil cothrom aig a’ chloinn againn com-pàirt a ghabhail ann am fèis Ghàidhlig bheothail a tha a’ brosnachadh an ùidh is an tlachd sa chànan.”
Thuirt Eilidh NicCoinnich Barker, “Tha Fèisean nan Gàidheal a’ cur fàilte air a’ chothrom obrachadh còmhla ri daoine òga gus na sgilean ciùil Gàidhlig aca a thoirt air adhart. Tha am meur foghlaim foirmeil againn, Fèisgoil, air a bhith an lùib Acadamaidh a’ Mhòid airson grunn bhliadhnaichean a’ cuideachadh chloinne is thidsearan gus òrain is bàrdachd ullachadh sa bhaile anns am bi am Mòd air aoigheachd gach bliadhna. Tha sinn gu h-àraid toilichte a bhith ag obair ann an sgoiltean FtG na Gàidhealtachd agus anns na sgoiltean far a bheil sgoilearan ag ionnsachadh na Gàidhlig mar chànan a bharrachd. Chuireamaid fàilte air a’ chothrom an com-pàirteachas co-obrachail seo a leudachadh le bhith a’ brosnachadh luchd-obrach is dhaoine òga gus na cothroman a tha an lùib ionnsachadh cultarail Gàidhlig a ghabhail.”

The Highland Council Gaelic Team is working with Fèisean nan Gàidheal and An Comunn Gàidhealach to develop Mòd Academy Project primarily in schools in the Inverness area in run up to both the Provincial and National Mòds taking place in Inverness in June and October respectively.
The Mòd Academy focuses on Gaelic Medium schools and schools which have chosen Gaelic as their third language (L3). For the purposes of the 1+2 Language Learning Approach. Children and young people are exposed to an additional language from primary 1 (Language 2 or L2). A further language is introduced from primary 5 (Language 3 or L3). The project will also be delivered in schools who wish to receive support in preparing young people for the Mòd.
The project is currently organising specific tutors to deliver Gaelic learning and usage tuition, Gaelic song tuition, Gaelic choral singing tuition, where appropriate bàrdachd (poetry), and folk group tuition. The tuition will be relevant to the Mòd syllabus, competitions and focus on participating in the Mòd.
An Comunn Gàidhealach will deliver a series of Youth Mòd Awareness events visits to schools in the area.
Deputy Provost Councillor Graham Ross said, “Projects which encourage Gaelic learning, usage and participation in the Gaelic culture will enrich young peoples’ learning experience.” I hope schools take the opportunity to take part in the Mòd Academy project as it offers quality tuition in preparation for Gaelic’s premier festival. He continued, “The Council recognises the social, linguistic cultural and economic benefits of Gaelic in the Highlands.”
Janice Macrae Head Teacher Muirtown Primary School said, “We, at Muirtown Primary, are delighted to have been asked to host the launch of this year’s Mod Academy.” She continued “Gaelic language plays an extremely important part of our culture and heritage in the Highlands. It is great to be supported as a school to participate in both the local and national Mod, thus giving our children the opportunity to experience taking part in a thriving Gaelic festival and also promoting an interest and enjoyment of the language.”
Eilidh Mackenzie Barker “Fèisean nan Gàidheal welcomes the opportunity to work with young people in honing their Gaelic music skills. Our formal education arm, Fèisgoil, has been involved with Mod Academy for several years helping children and their teachers prepare songs & poetry in the different town hosting the national mod each year. We are particularly keen to be working in Highland GME schools and those where pupils are learning Gaelic as an additional language and would welcome the opportunity to expand this collaborative working partnership in encouraging staff and young people to embrace the opportunities afforded through Gaelic cultural learning”
The project is supported by Bòrd na Gàidhlig.
