Nairnshire members give green light to garage rents increase

Members have approved a 3% increase in garage rents for 2020/21, the net surplus from which will go into their maintenance and repair.

A 3% general rent increase was approved at Housing and Property Committee on 29 January 2020 and at full Council on 13 February 2020.

Garage Rent for Council Tenants will increase by 18p from £5.85 to £6.03. Garage Rent non-tenant will go up by 21p from £7.02 to £7.23. Garage Site Rent for Council Tenants will increase by 2p from 68p to 70p. Garage Site Rent for Non-Tenant increases by 3pm from 82p to 85p. As a result, income will increase from £14,550 to £15,018.

Chair of the Nairnshire Area Committee, Cllr Tom Heggie, said: “This is in line with the general rate rises agreed earlier this year.

“Any net additional rent income from garages and garage sites generated by a rent increase would be applied as an increase in the area repairs budget for garages and garage sites in 2020/21.”
