National Awards To Acknowledge Work Of Young Volunteers

Eighteen young people from Highland will this year receive the accolade of Young Quality Scot for their contribution to their communities. 

The Young Quality Scot Awards, which are a partnership between Quality Scotland and ten councils across Scotland look to recognise and reward young volunteers in Scotland. 

Ten of the young people from the Highlands took part in a local training event held recently at Fairburn Activity Centre with partners from Quality Scotland and staff from The Highland Council’s Education, Culture and Sport service.  The day involved taking part in interactive workshops on team building, leadership skills, and presentation skills to help prepare the youngsters for the national celebration event which the Highland Council will be hosting on the 8th and 9th March in Drumnadrochit.

The programme for the two days consists of a welcome reception at Urquhart Castle, followed by a civic reception at Glenurqhart High School hosted by Provost Smith and followed by a ceildh. 

On Friday 9th the young people from each council area will give a presentation entitled “Being Young In..”, prepared at their local training.  In the afternoon Adventurer Pauline Sanderson has been invited to share her exploits on the EverestMax challenge and to present the certificates at the end of the day.
