Learning More About Nature
Two free fun family events are being organised this weekend in the Inverness area to help people learn a bit more about local plants and animals.
Organised by The Highland Council’s Ranger Service, these outings are open to all, but all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Between 2-4 pm. on Saturday (23 July), the public is invited to take part in 'Birding for Beginners'. Meeting at the South Kessock turning circle, this outing will involve walking along the sea wall path for a distance of about 3km/2miles and help people to learn about the local birds. Richard Prentice, of the RSPB Members’ Group, who will be jointly leading the event, said: "This walk a great opportunity for people who want to learn a little bit about birds in a light hearted way."
On Sunday (24 July), the theme will be insects and plants as the event explores how insects and plants work together. Meeting at the Abriachan Forest Trust car park at 2pm, the event will last until 4pm. Senior Ranger for Inverness and Nairn, Katy Martin, said: "We take for granted that plants and insects help each other out but don't think much more about it. This event, with the help of some props, will help us learn a little more. It promises to be a fun afternoon at Abriachan."
