Space for People Project in Dingwall to start
The Highland Council has published information about the temporary traffic orders that will come into place on Friday (19 June) in Dingwall as part of the Spaces for People project.
Following a successful award of £752,954 from Scottish Government’s Spaces for People fund, the Council is now delivering a series of active travel interventions across Highland in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. The coming weeks and months will see streets across Highland giving more space to people walking, wheeling and cycling. This will make it possible for people to physically distance and get to key destinations using healthier travel modes.
In Dingwall, the first improvements to be rolled out that require a temporary traffic regulation, will be the introduction of temporary 20mph speed limits on many of the roads around the town. This is to help maintain social distancing and ensure public and road safety while Coronavirus restrictions are in place. Routes affected include Achany Road, part of the Back road, Castle Street, Kinnardie Avenue, Peffery Road, and a section of the A834 Strathpeffer Road.
Full details on all the roads where temporary 20mph speed limits will be in place are on the council’s website - https://consult.highland.gov.uk/kse/event/35394 - and signage highlighting the temporary changes is going up around the town.
All road users are reminded that as the temporary 20 mph Speed Limit Order goes live from 6am this Friday, the 20mph speed limit will be legally enforceable from this date.
The Council will keep the situation under review and will only revoke the Order before 18 months have elapsed if it considers that the restrictions are no longer necessary.
