Honour for Highland Librarian
A senior Highland librarian with The Highland Council has been honoured by her Scottish colleagues in recognition of her work in support of school library resource centres and the profession over the years.
Stephanie Hoyle, Principal Schools Librarian, has been made an honorary member of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals in Scotland.
The Institute say Stephanie has been a stalwart supporter of the School Library Association and made a significant contribution to securing support for self-evaluation, performance measurement and effective service delivery within the sector. In addition the Institute recognises the value of her advocacy in other areas such as reader development, ICT and information literacy.
Stephanie said: “The news that I was to be offered honorary membership came as a complete surprise. I was first notified in early January – it was like being included in the New Year Honours! I have always considered myself fortunate to have work that I enjoy and never expected to be singled out. It has been a privilege to work with so many dedicated and talented people, and to be so closely involved in the work of the School Library Association, which does so much to support and promote school libraries."
Stephanie has worked with the Council’s Education Culture and Sport Service for 14 years. Prior to this she was responsible for library services to schools in Northamptonshire. Her involvement with the School Library Association goes back to 1975 when she attended and AGM and was invited to join the local branch committee.
