Tribute paid to Events Manager

Tribute was paid today at the City of Inverness Area Committee to Gerry Reynolds, former Inverness Events Manager who retired on 2nd November from The Highland Council.

Depute Provost and Leader of Inverness and Area, Cllr Graham Ross said: “As Chair of the Events and Festivals sub-committee it has been an absolute pleasure to work alongside Gerry over so many years. Gerry’s commitment both within work hours and in his own personal time to bring high quality events to the city and area has been absolutely exceptional. 

“The city and area have benefitted greatly from the extraordinary events programme that Gerry developed and many hundreds of thousands of residents over the years have thoroughly enjoyed the spectacular events he produced.

“Gerry believed wholeheartedly in having the community as close to, and as involved as possible, and there is no doubt the events programme has added greatly to the quality of life of residents and added greatly to the vibrancy of the city.  

“To name just a few of these events - from the Halloween Show on the Ness Islands, the Fireworks Display, Winter Wonderland at Whin Park, the city centre Christmas Light Switch on, the incredible Red Hot Highland Fling to the Inverness Highland Games – Gerry’s work really has left an incredible legacy for the city.

“He also assisted countless community groups such as local youth groups and community centres to Highland Pride and Inverness Outlanders. Everyone involved  greatly benefitted from his knowledge and expertise. In addition the economic impact from events has been inestimable as local businesses benefitted greatly from the huge increases in footfall and visitors to the area. 

“It has been an exciting and hugely enjoyable time and there is no doubt Gerry will be missed greatly by me, his work colleagues and the city and area as a whole. 

“Enjoy your retirement Gerry, may it be a long and enjoyable time for you and your family. Thank you Gerry for creating such wonderful memories.”
