Spirit of the Highlands – get involved!
What sums up the ‘Spirit of the Highlands’ for you? The land? The people? The vivid colours you see as we move through the seasons each year? Spirit of the Highlands invites everyone and anyone who knows and loves the Highlands to get involved and contribute a story about what sums up the ‘Spirit of the Highlands’ for you.
A short video, available at www.spiritofthehighlands.com gives more information, featuring participants from throughout the Highlands, featuring Highland residents from throughout the area.
Tell your story in up to 350 words. Or upload a photograph or short audio/video file that tells the story for you. Everybody has a story to tell, including you – get involved now by visiting the website and sharing your story at www.spiritofthehighlands.com
The stories collected will form the basis of online content and will be interpreted within the newly transformed Inverness Castle visitor attraction when it opens, to encourage people to visit and to explore the Highlands and to find out more about our extraordinary and unique area. The stories will be available to everybody and will be used in different ways to attract people to find out about the Highlands and to plan a visit in the future; online, in print and through events and education projects.
Fiona Hampton, project director, said:
“This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone who loves the Highlands to have a say in shaping the content for the Spirit of the Highlands online and within the transformed Inverness Castle building in future. These stories will be shared with the world, encouraging people to get to know this unique part of Scotland. Everyone is invited to take part so don’t miss out, visit www.spiritofthehighlands.com now to share your story!”
The transformation of Inverness Castle is supported by £15 million Scottish Government and £3 million UK Government investment through the city region deal. It will create a gateway for Highland tourism, contributing to reinvigoration of tourism across the area and providing much needed investment for the industry to aid the recovery from the effects of the Covid -19 pandemic. The project will support economic growth throughout the Highland area, creating a sustainable, viable and “must-see” attraction that will celebrate the spirit of the Highlands.
The Inverness and Highland City Region deal is a joint initiative supported by up to £315m investment from the UK and Scottish governments, The Highland Council, HIE and University of the Highlands and Islands, aimed at stimulating sustainable regional economic growth.
