Big-hearted councillors donate Christmas collection to children's charities this year
A annual collection held by Members of Highland Council for chamber staff will this year be donated to children's charities in light of the challenges faced by many families as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Members have this year raised £770 following their collection, which is to be split between the Archie Foundation and MFR's Cash for Kids Mission Christmas Appeal.
Deputy Convener of Highland Council, Isabelle Campbell, said: "Our chamber staff have, like members, been fully supported throughout the COVID pandemic, but we recognise it has been a struggle for many families in Highland.
"Members therefore decided it would be more appropriate to gift their collection to these two children's charities with the aim of helping those less fortunate during these challenging times."
The MFR Cash for Kids Mission Christmas appeal in 2020 recognises that COVID has changed everything. As families unexpectedly face poverty, more and more children could be waking up on Christmas Day without anything under the tree. But the appeal give people an opportunity to help by donating to the appeal.
The ARCHIE Foundation is a charity that makes the difference for local sick children when they are in hospital or require long-term medical treatment.
