Inshes Primary School pupils raise money for charities

Pupils at Inshes Primary School showed their support for less abled children by organising an auction and raising £700 for two local children's charities.

The money will be donated to two local charities, Special Needs Action Project (SNAP) and Positive About Down Syndrome, to help support children and their families living under the current coronavirus restrictions.

Chair of the Education Committee, Cllr John Finlayson said: “Well done to the pupils and staff of Inshes Primary School, it is great to see our young people pull together to support others during this challenging time. The rewards of their efforts in engaging with local businesses and organising the virtual event is greatly appreciated and they should be very proud of their achievement.”

Pupils belonging to the House Leadership Team contacted local businesses for donations and hosted a virtual auction to members of the community. The virtual auction was led by their principal teacher, Mr. Tavs Laurie and prizes included hampers, cakes, a signed football top, signed goalie gloves, a family ticket to an ICTFC game and many more.

Mr Laurie said: “We had been learning about children's rights in our school, and in particular about children with disabilities. The pupils decided they wanted to help It is a huge gesture from them. I am very proud of our young people."

Chair of Inverness Area Committee, and the Provost of Inverness, Cllr Helen Carmichael added: “On behalf of the local Members, I want to thank everyone in the school involved in supporting two excellent local charities. This has been a difficult year for all of us in our local community, across Highland and nationally. It is inspiring to see our young people thinking of others and working creatively within the restrictions placed upon them to support others.”
