Best foot forward on repaired Cromarty footpath

The popular Reeds Park footpath in Cromarty which leads to the south Sutor, suffered damage in the heavy rains a few weeks ago. A small bridge collapsed and became a hazard for walkers.

As a very well used core path this became a priority repair and The Highland Council’s Outdoor Access Manager, Phil Waite, put the case forward for a small budget to replace the bridge with large pipes.

Fortunately, contractor KJ Mackenzie was available to do the work at short notice. Mr Waite then spoke with the community council and landowner to make the necessary arrangements.

Highland Councillor Craig Fraser, a Cromarty resident, said: “I am really chuffed with this work and really thank the council staff and contractor for doing a great job so quickly.”

Fellow Black isle Councillor and Chair of the Dingwall, Black Isle and Seaforth Committee, Cllr Gordon Adam added: “This is a very popular walking route with locals and the many visitors that come to spend time in Cromarty and the Black Isle. At this time of year people are keen to get outdoors and stretch their legs, so having the path improved so promptly is very welcomed and everyone involved should be congratulated.”
