Highland Council supports LGBT History Month

To mark the start of LGBT History Month, during the first week of February, The Highland Council will fly the Rainbow Flag at both the Town House in Inverness and the Council’s Headquarters on Glenurquhart Road, Inverness.

Highland Council Convener, Cllr Bill Lobban said: “At this time of year, LGBT communities would usually come together to raise awareness of LGBT issues.

"In Highland this would include raising awareness of the isolation affecting some LGBT people, and to promote inclusion and diversity.

"Many will, I am sure, find different ways to ways to meet virtually and mark the month online this year.”

Depute Provost Inverness and Area, Cllr Graham Ross, said: “Flying the Rainbow Flag and lighting Ness Bridge are a way for us to show the Council’s support for LGBT History Month and to show that Highland is an inclusive and welcoming place to live.”

The Ness Bridge crossing the River Ness will be lit up in the rainbow colours courtesy of the Inverness Common Good Fund.
