Butterflies at Ardersier

Ardersier Common is the perfect place to see butterflies so The Highland Council’s Countryside Rangers will be running a guided walk on Wednesday 25 July to look for these fascinating and colourful insects.

It is hoped those coming along will be lucky enough to glimpse Scotland’s rarest butterfly.

Ranger John Orr, who will be leading the walk said: “The common at Ardersier plays host to Scotland’s rarest butterfly, the Dingy Skipper and its smallest, the Small Blue. We do regular butterfly surveys here because it is such an important site. On Wednesday we will be keeping our eyes peeled for butterflies and discovering some little known facts about these beautiful creatures.”

Anyone interested in joining John should meet up at 2pm at the Ardersier Common Picnic Site for an hour and a half walk which will include some games and activities and is suitable for all ages although children must be accompanied by an adult.
