Remote learning presentation at Sutherland Committee
A presentation on remote learning and childcare was presented at yesterday’s (1 March) Sutherland Committee meeting, delivered by a local Head Teacher and supported by the Council’s North Area Manager.
Chair of the committee, Cllr Richard Gale said: “On behalf of myself and the Members of the Sutherland Committee, I would like to thank Katherine Wood and Alison Donald for their insightful presentation and information on the great work happening in our local schools.
“There is a good focus on support for our children, young people, and staff to help them during remote learning and preparations for their, hopefully soon, return to school. I would like to extend my earlier thanks to everyone who is involved in this large, challenging, but very important piece of work.”
The presentation outlined the journey that the North Coast Campus schools have gone on over the past year. It began by explaining the technical capabilities and resources available pre-pandemic to the schools and then went on to explain the development of skills, priorities, and lessons learned over the year after experiencing two lockdowns caused by the pandemic.
Katherine Wood, Head Teacher of the North Coast Campus, concluded the presentation by highlighting some of the key lessons learnt during lockdown for her school settings. Included in these lessons learned is that online learning offers many possibilities which can be transferred into traditional classrooms (although nothing beats face to face learning), offering an online option increases parents' ability to engage, and that communication is key.
Mrs Woods added: “Our staff, pupils, parents and the communities which we live in are amazing. They have been so supportive and have worked very hard over the past year."
