Provost of Nairn.
Councillor Liz MacDonald has been chosen to be the civic leader of Nairnshire, taking on the honorary role of provost for the next four years.
Councillor MacDonald is the first female provost to serve the area.
She was chosen at a meeting of the four Highland Council members who serve Nairn and will take up her duties with immediate effect. Her appointment will be announced at tonight’s meeting of the Nairnshire Partnership.
She said: “It is a tremendous privilege and honour to be chosen as the Provost of Nairn and I am greatly looking forward to my new role.”
One of Councillor MacDonald’s first duties will be to chair the Nairn Ward Forum, which meets for the first time on Wednesday 20 June. The Ward Forum involves the four Highland Council members for Nairn as well as community council representatives and key partner agencies.
It will be administered by Louise Clark, the new Ward Manager for Nairn.
Councillor MacDonald joined The Highland Council in 1999 as the member for Nairn Ninian. Between 2003-2007 she was depute chairman of the Resources Committee, being the Council’s spokesperson on equal opportunities.
She was recently elected Vice-Chairman of the Council’s Housing and Social Work Committee.
