Strategic Timber Transport Scheme – helps Highland Roads Recovery

Over £750K road improvement works on the B9090 from Clephanton in Inverness area through Cawdor and on B9091 in Nairnshire have been completed.

The partnership funded improvement works were delivered by The Highland Council with £215K (Council Roads Capital Fund), and £547K grant funding from the national Strategic Timber Transport Scheme (STTS) operated by Scottish Forestry.

Widening, edge strengthening and drainage improvements have been carried out to 1km of the B9090 to provide for two-way operation.

At Clephanton

A further 3km of structural strengthening and new surfacing laid along with road safety measurers; road signage, electronic speed indicator signs, road makings, reduction of speed limit to 30mph in Cawdor and 50mph on the B9090 east of Cawdor.

STTS road improvements

Strategic Timber Transport Schemes provide major benefits to the Highland rural economy through enabling millions of tonnes of timber to be extracted, providing employment and improvement to remote rural ‘lifeline’ roads, and result in benefits across the local economy.

This is one of many road projects completed on The Highland Council’s 6,754km of road network that the local authority is marking in its recent #HighlandRoadsRecovery campaign.

The Council is highlighting some of its roads maintenance works that have recently been completed and these are being featured on social media with the hashtag #HighlandRoadsRecovery.
