Community Warden Initiative reaches three year milestone

Residents in parts of Alness and Invergordon have now had a Community Warden working in their area for three years and locals are being invited to meet staff to tell them what they think of the Service.

Residents recently returned a Survey sent to every household in the Community Warden areas.  This survey continues to help measure how safe people feel in their community and what issues they think the Wardens need to keep working on to help improve where they live.

Residents are now also being invited to one of two public meetings to review the Service over the past six months (December 2006 – May 2007).

Tina Luxton, Area Housing & Property Manager for Caithness, Sutherland & Easter Ross, said “all the communities concerned have been kept involved every step of the way and this provides a further opportunity to involve the community and check the initiative is working at a very local level.”

“As well as conducting an annual household survey we are committed to reviewing the Community Warden initiative, which is funded mainly by the Scottish Executive, every six months.”

Tina went on to say; “The surveys provide us with the numbers but these public review meetings help by giving people a chance to have a chat and tell us in detail if having a Warden is making a real difference to them.  We’ll also be letting people know what the responses from this year’s annual survey tell us and this will help provide the future direction of the service.”

Residents are invited to attend either of the following Public Meetings to give their views:

• Wednesday 20 June, Invergordon Arts Centre, at 7.30pm
• Thursday 21 June, Averon Leisure Centre, Alness, 7.30pm

If you can’t attend any of the meetings you are invited to post your comments to Donna MacKenzie, Principal Housing Officer, Alness Service Point, Market Square House, Obsdale Road, Alness, by Friday 29 June 2007.

The Highland Council will continue to review the Community Warden initiative and the Compact at set intervals when the communities involved will be invited to have their say again.
