First Ward Forum for Eilean a Cheo

The first Ward Forum for The Highland Council electoral ward of Eilean a Cheo will take place at Tigh Na Sgire, Park Lane, Portree, at 2 pm on Monday (18 June).

The meeting will be held in public and there will be a 20-minute session at the close of the meeting for the public to ask questions.

The aim of the forum is to provide an effective scrutiny of the way the Council provides services in Skye and Raasay. The first meeting will feature a discussion on the structure of the ward forum, set agenda items for future meetings, dates and venues . There will also be an update on NHS out-of-hours service.

The meetings will be attended by the four councillors who serve Eilean a Cheo – Councillors Hamish Fraser, John Laing, Drew Millar and Ian Renwick  - as well as representatives from community councils, school boards, health, police and the voluntary.

Providing administrative support to the forum will be Bob Cameron, Corporate Manager for Ross Skye and Lochaber and Alaisdair Mackenzie, Area Solicitor for Ross Skye and Lochaber.

The Council is currently advertising for a Ward Manager to provide support for the work of the Council in Skye and Raasay.

There will be at least six meetings of the Ward Forum each year and dates for forthcoming meetings will be considered at the inaugural meeting.

Mr Cameron said: “Ward Forum meetings will encourage discussion with our community partners, who will be able to assess how effectively we deliver services and may have ideas on how we can improve service delivery. An important element of the meetings will be an opportunity for the public to ask questions of the forum members.”
