Thuirt i, “Tha e cudromach cothrom a thabhann do na Tràth-bhliadhnaichean com-pàirt a ghabhail ann an cleasan spòrsail seach gu bheil seo gan cuideachadh a’ togail a’ chànain fhad ’s a tha iad cuideachd a’ togail ceangal len co-aoisean ann an àrainneachd spòrsail, neo-fhoirmeil.”
Thuirt an Comhairliche Calum Rothach, Cathraiche Comataidh na Gàidhlig: “Tha tachartasan spòrs air an lìbhrigeadh sa Ghàidhlig cuideachd a’ toirt taic do phàrantan sgoilearan ann am foghlam tron Ghàidhlig seach gu bheil mòran phàrantan ann aig nach eil Gàidhlig agus tha seo a’ toirt cothrom dhan chloinn a cleachdadh taobh a-muigh na sgoile.
"Lean e air adhart, “Tha Plana Gàidhlig Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd a’ soilleireachadh cho cudromach ’s a tha e iomairtean a thoirt air adhart a bhrosnaicheas cleachdadh na Gàidhlig sna coimhearsnachdan againn agus tha sinn ag amas gum bi i air a cleachdadh gu cunbhalach ann an diofar shuidheachaidhean, gu h-àraid nuair a thathar a’ cruthachadh is a’ cur taic ri cleasan airson ar n-òigridh.”

The Highland Council Gaelic Team with financial support from Bòrd na Gàidhlig organised a fun packed Spòrs Samhraidh; a sporting event which was delivered through the medium of Gaelic and took place recently.
The Gaelic sporting sessions were offered to Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh pupils who are in Sgoil Àraich and P1-P3. Over forty Gaelic medium pupils participated in a range of activities, which included athletics and football skills. The Spòrs Samhraidh sessions were organsied and led by Eilidh MacLean, a Gaelic medium teacher at Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh who is also an Early years’ parent, said: “It's important to offer Early years pupils the opportunity to participate in fun activities as this supports their language acquisition skills whilst engaging with peers in an informal fun environment.”
Councillor Calum Munro, Chair of the Gaelic Committee said: “Sports events delivered in Gaelic also support parents of Gaelic Medium pupils as many parents are not Gaelic speakers therefore this provides the opportunity for their children to use Gaelic out-with the school setting.
He continued, “The Highland Council’s Gaelic Language Plan highlights the importance of developing initiatives which promote the use of Gaelic in our communities and we aim to see the language used regularly within varied situations especially when supporting and creating activities for our young people.”
