Newly-formed Dingwall and Seaforth Area Committee comes together for inaugural meeting

Members of the Highland Council’s new Dingwall and Seaforth Area Committee attended their inaugural meeting yesterday, Monday 16 August.

This new stand-alone Area Committee – which previously formed part of the wider Black Isle, Dingwall and Seaforth Committee structure – is served by four elected members who represent Ward 8:

  • Councillor Alister Mackinnon
  • Councillor Angela MacLean
  • Councillor Graham MacKenzie
  • Councillor Margaret Paterson

At the outset of the Committee, Councillor Graham MacKenzie was appointed as the Chair, a nomination put forward by Councillor Margaret Paterson and seconded by Councillor Alister Mackinnon.

As Vice-Chair of the previous iteration of this Committee, Councillor Margaret Paterson will retain this role for the Dingwall and Seaforth meetings.

The split of the wider Ross-shire area committee originally occurred in April when a motion was successfully put forward to full Council to allow the Dingwall and Seaforth Ward to have its own forum.  Black Isle is now also a stand-alone Area Committee (Chaired by Councillor Gordon Adam) which met for the first time in its new format at the beginning of August.

Councillor Graham MacKenzie said:  “I am delighted to be appointed as Chair of this newly-formed Area Committee and I would like to thank my colleagues for their support in this.”

He continued:  “I hope that the formation of this new Area Committee will allow for closer engagement with local communities and our residents.  Local Government Elections are scheduled to take place once again in May 2022, however, we hope to make full use of the remaining months of this term and work positively with partners in forming a strong vision for the coming years.”
