Summer of Hope programme a hit with pupils and parents

A video showcasing the range of activities on offer, positive parent feedback, and photographs of pupils participating in the Summer of Hope programme is now available to watch on the Council’s YouTube channel.

The Scottish Government announced £20m nationally to help us 'Get Into Summer' as part of the recovery from Covid-19. Supported by this funding, the Council collaborated with colleagues and more than 30 additional Partners and activity providers across the region to build a range of opportunities for children and young people to have access to playful, creative, and engaging experiences.

The programme saw approximately 1,400 individuals attending sessions with more than 11,700 total registered attendees as some pupils attended multiple sessions. There were over 1,100 individual youth work and play sessions on offer and 23 jobs were created or extended in voluntary youth clubs. Additionally, approximately 11,500 meals were issued to attendees. 

Education Chair, Cllr John Finlayson said: “I am delighted that the Summer of Hope programme has been well received by parents and pupils across Highland. The programme provided opportunities for our children and young people in Highland to re-connect with their peers, obtain and develop key skills, and most importantly have fun over the summer term. For some children in Highland, the funded places allowed individuals to try out new activities and experiences that were available in their local communities. I would like to thank everyone involved in their involvement in the programme including our staff, our many Partners and activity providers, parents and pupils.”
