Seiseanan Seòlaidh tro Mheadhan na Gàidhlig
Chuir Sgioba Gàidhlig Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd, ann an com-pàirteachas le Club Seòlaidh an Eilein Sgitheanaich, air dòigh seiseanan seòlaidh do sgoilearan ann am Foghlam tron Ghàidhlig ann an Clas 7. Ghabh 12 sgoilear bho Bhun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh, Bun-Sgoil Dhùn Bheagain agus Bun-Sgoil Chille Mhoire com-pàirt anns na seiseanan thairis air trì seachdainean. Chaidh na seiseanan a chumail aig Club Seòlaidh an Eilein Sgitheanaich ann am Port Rìgh agus chaidh an lìbhrigeadh mar chleas às dèidh sgoile. Thug an iomairt cothrom do dh’òigridh trèanadh fhaighinn bho oidean barantaichte agus eòlas bunaiteach a chur air seòladh. Tha Sgioba na Gàidhlig an dùil leantainn air adhart ag obair le Club Seòlaidh an Eilein Sgitheanaich san ath ràith nuair a bhios barrachd chothroman ann do dh’òigridh com-pàirt a ghabhail.
Thuirt Elaine NicFhearghais, Urrasair Club Seòlaidh an Eilein Sgitheanaich, “Tha Club Seòlaidh an Eilein Sgitheanaich air a bhith fìor thoilichte seiseanan feasgair a thabhann do sgoilearan Clas 7. B’ e seo a’ chiad turas a bha cuid aca air a’ mhuir agus tha e air a bhith tlachdmhor am faicinn a’ fàs nas misneachaile thairis air na seachdainean. ’S e spòrs air leth a th’ ann an seòladh agus tha seo a’ brosnachadh obair-sgioba is conaltradh, agus air cothrom a thoirt dhan chloinn coinneachadh ri sgoilearan eile ann am Foghlam tron Ghàidhlig agus dàimhean ùra a thogail mus tèid iad suas dhan àrd-sgoil an-ath-bhliadhna. Às dèidh 18 mìosan de ghlasadh is de thachartasan air an cur dheth, tha e na urram dhuinn àite is cothrom a thoirt dhaibh far an ionnsaich iad rudeigin ùr, far an dèan iad gàire len caraidean, agus far am bi iad bog fliuch!”
Thuirt Lorna NicFhionghain, pàrant ann am Foghlam tron Ghàidhlig aig Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh, “Chòrd e glan ris an nighinn agam pàirt a ghabhail anns na seiseanan seòlaidh Gàidhlig agus thug seo misneachd dhi, gu h-àraid às dèidh a’ ghlasaidh agus cothrom aice fhèin is aig a co-aoisean tighinn còmhla a-rithist.”
Thug na seiseanan seòlaidh cothrom sgoinneil do dhaoine òga na sgilean togail cànain aca a neartachadh taobh a-muigh a’ chlasa agus com-pàirt a ghabhail ann an cleasan taobh a-muigh a’ churraicealaim le co-aoisean. Bha seo gu h-àraid cudromach seach gun do chuir an glasadh bacadh orra bho bhith a’ gabhail pàirt ann am fealla-dhà is spòrs foghlaim air a’ bhlàr a-muigh.
Thuirt Calum Rothach, Cathraiche Comataidh Gàidhlig Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd, “Tha na cleasan seòlaidh a tha air an cur air dòigh le Sgioba Gàidhlig Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd, ann an co-bhann le Club Seòlaidh an Eilein Sgitheanaich, nan sàr eisimpleir de chom-pàirteachas soirbheachail a bha a’ toirt taic do sgoilearan ann am Foghlam tron Ghàidhlig ann an suidheachadh coimhearsnachd. Bu toil leam cuideachd an taic a thug Bòrd na Gàidhlig dhan phròiseact innleachdach seo aithneachadh.”

Gaelic Medium Sailing Club
Gaelic Medium sailing taster sessions
The Highland Council Gaelic team in partnership with the Isle of Skye Sailing Club organised Gaelic sailing taster sessions for Gaelic medium pupils in primary 7.
A total of 12 pupils from Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh, Dunvegan and Kilmuir primaries participated in the sessions over a period of 3 weeks.
The sessions took place at the Isle of Skye Sailing club venue in Portree and were delivered as an after- school activity. The initiative offered youngsters who have never had the opportunity to participate in sailing activities the experience of working with qualified sailing instructors to gain a basic introduction to sailing. The Gaelic team are planning to continue to work with the Skye Sailing Club next season when there will be additional opportunities for Gaelic youngsters to participate in sailing activities.
Elaine Ferguson a Trustee of the Skye Sailing Club said: "Skye Sailing Club has been delighted to offer afternoon taster sessions to the P7 GM pupils. This has been the first time that some of them have been on the sea, and to watch them grow in confidence over the weeks has been incredibly rewarding. Sailing is a great sport which encourages teamwork and communication, and it has afforded the kids the opportunity to meet other Gaelic Medium pupils and forge new relationships before they head up to the high school next year. After the past 18 months of lockdown and cancelled events, it's a privilege to be able to provide a venue and opportunity for them to learn something new, laugh with their friends, and to get wet!"
Lorna MacKinnon, a Gaelic medium parent at Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh said: “My daughter thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Gaelic sailing taster sessions as it increased her confidence, especially following on from lockdown as it created a great opportunity for her and her peers to get together.”
The sailing taster sessions provided an exciting opportunity for young people to enhance their language acquisition skills out with the classroom and supported the pupils to engage in an extra-curricular activity with their peers especially as lockdown restricted them from taking part in fun and educational outdoor sports.
Calum Munro, Chair of The Highland Council Gaelic Committee said “The Sailing activities organised by The Highland Council Gaelic Team in association with the Skye Sailing Club is an excellent example of a successful partnership which supported Gaelic medium pupils in a community setting. I also wish to take this opportunity to acknowledge the support provided by Bòrd na Gaidhlig to take this innovative project forward.”
