An dèidh deireadh-sheachdain fosglaidh a bha làn subhachais, tha am Mòd aig toiseach seachdain a’ cuimseachadh air òigridh, le seiseanan seinn air-loidhne do gach aois agus àrd-phuingean bho fharpaisean an latha.

An dèidh deireadh-sheachdain a bha loma-làn de thachartasan, tha am Mòd Nàiseanta Rìoghail 2021 a’ tilleadh aig toiseach seachdain le prògram saidhbhir a’ comharrachadh thachartasan cultarach air feadh baile-mòr Inbhir Nis.

Chan eil teagamh nach bi a cheart uimhir de nithean tlachdmhor ri fhaighinn air an t-seachdain seo, a’ tòiseachadh mar a tha e le Mion-Fhèis a’ Mhòid ann am Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Inbhir Nis. Bidh an tachartas seo a tha an-asgaidh, do chlann le Gàidhlig aig aois bun-sgoile, agus a’ tabhann cothrom air com-pàirteachadh ann an ceòl, ceàird agus seiseanan gheamannan air an stiùireadh le oidean Gàidhlig proifeiseanta.

Tha an fheadhainn bheaga air an deagh choimhead às an dèidh, agus am preasantair TBh as fheàrr leotha air an t-saoghal, Linda NicLeòid, a’ gabhail a seiseanan Leugh is Seinn le Linda air-loidhne madainn an-diugh, do chlann suas gu aois 5.

Tha cuimse air tachartasan òigridh tarsainn a’ Mhòid an-diugh, le cuid de fharpaisean chloinne a’ gabhail àite ann an Cùirt Eden bho 2f. Thèid taghadh de na h-àrd-phuingean bhuapasan a chraobh-sgaoileadh air-loidhne air Facebook bho 7f, dhaibhsan a tha measail air rionnagan an latha a-màireach a thaghadh.

Ach chan e dìreach an òigridh aig a bheil deagh spòrs – bidh an seinneadair à Uibhist a Tuath, Janice Simpson, a’ stiùireadh seisean seinn Gàidhlig air-loidhne bho 7:30f, freagarrach don a h-uile aois agus ìre comais ann an Gàidhlig.

Tha ionnsachadh air-loidhne air fàs anabarrach measail aig luchd-tòiseachaidh na Gàidhlig mar thoradh air soirbheachas a’ phrògraim Ghàidhlig air an app ionnsachaidh cànain, Duolingo. Bidh bùth-obrach na h-oidhche a-nochd a’ tabhann cothrom do luchd-ionnsachaidh coinneachadh ri chèile agus piseach a thoirt air an fhuaimneachadh aca fo oideachadh sgileil aon de na seinneadairean as grinne ann an saoghal nan Gàidheal.

Am measg thachartasan eile air-loidhne a bhios a’ gabhail àite an-diugh, tha tachartas litreachais sònraichte le Ruairidh MacIlleathain. A’ tarraing air an leabhar aige a dh’fhoillsich e o chionn ghoirid, A Watery View: Place Names of Inverness and Surrounding Area, bidh Ruairidh a’ toirt luchd-èisteachd air-loidhne bho chladaichean Loch Nis gu boglaichean a’ Mhonaidh Mhòir, ann an còmhradh a tha a’ gealltainn a bhith inntinneach is oideachail.

Mar a bhios an-còmhnaidh, a thuilleadh air tachartasan air-loidhne, bidh ceòl beò anns an ionad a-muigh aig Cùirt Eden an-diugh bho 4f – 6f, air a ruith le Fèisean nan Gàidheal.

A’ coimhead air adhart ris a’ chòrr den t-seachdain, is e àrd-phuing na seachdaine, ciad thaisbeanadh air obair ùr Lauren NicCholla leis an ainm ‘An Ear / East’ air Dimàirt 12 Dàmhair. Tha am pìos seo air a bhrosnachadh leis na costaichean is uisgeachan mu thimcheall Inbhir Nis agus an Eilein Dhuibh, far an do rugadh agus thogadh am fìdhlear ’s an sgrìobhadair ciùil.

A’ taisbeanadh ghnìomhaidhean ciùil bho Mairearad Green, Anna Massie agus Raonaid Newton, agus òrain bho Art MacCarmaig agus Emma NicLeòid, tha am feasgar a’ gealltainn a bhith na thachartas dhrùidhteach is shònraichte.

Thuirt Seumas Greumach, Àrd-Oifigear a’ Chomuinn Ghàidhealaich: “An dèidh deireadh-sheachdain thrang, tha sinn miannach air an aon soirbheachas a chumail a’ dol le tachartasan òigridh an latha an-diugh.

“Tha àite anabarrach cudromach aig luchd-labhairt òg le Gàidhlig anns a’ choimhearsnachd againn san àm ri teachd, agus tha an-diugh a’ soillseachadh solas air an comasan ’s air an coileanaidhean, le raon de thachartasan airson taic, brosnachadh agus buaidh a thoirt dhaibh. Tha beagan làithean làn de ghnìomhachdan air a bhith againn mar-thà gu ruige seo, agus tha àireamh mhòr de thachartasan mìorbhaileach fhathast ri thighinn air an t-seachdain seo, agus tha sinn a’ coimhead air adhart ri fàilte a chur air luchd-èisteachd thuca.”

Thuirt Shona NicIllinnein, Ceannard, Bòrd na Gàidhlig: “Tha am Mòd Nàiseanta Rìoghail a’ cur air bhonn raon de thachartasan brosnachail agus tarraingeach do gach buidheann aoise.   Tha a chuimse air daoine òga fìor luachmhor ann a bhith a’ brosnachadh na h-òigridh a dhol an sàs ann an Gàidhlig agus mar sin a’ faotainn chothroman dhaibh a cleachdadh ann an àrainneachd spòrsail. Tha luchd-ionnsachaidh na Gàidhlig de gach aois deatamach do fhàs air a’ chànan agus tha sinn a’ cur mealadh naidheachd air a’ Chomunn Ghàidhealach mar thoradh air an cuid obrach.”

The Royal National Mòd shines a spotlight on young Gaels

After a joyous opening weekend, the Mòd kicks off this week with a focus on youth, with online song sessions for all ages and highlights from the day’s competitions

After a jam-packed opening weekend, The Royal National Mòd 2021 returns this week with a rich programme of celebratory cultural events across the city of Inverness, and online.

There is no doubt that this week will provide just as many delights, beginning as it does with The Mòd Mini Fèis at Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Inbhir Nis. This free event, for Gaelic primary children, will offer the chance to take part in music, crafts and games sessions with professional Gaelic tutors.

Wee ones are catered for as well, with beloved TV presenter Linda Macleod taking her Leugh is Seinn le Linda sessions online for children up to the age of 5 this morning.

There is a focus on youth events across The Mòd today, with some children’s competitions taking place at Eden Court from 2pm. A selection of highlights from these will be broadcast online on Facebook from 7pm, for those who are keen to spot the stars of tomorrow.

It’s not just the youngsters having all the fun - North Uist singer Janice Simpson leads a Gaelic singing session online from 7:30pm, suitable for all ages and levels of Gaelic ability.

Online learning has become incredibly popular for Gaelic beginners due to the success of the Gaelic programme on language learning app, Duolingo. Tonight’s workshop will offer an opportunity for learners to meet one another and improve their pronunciation under the skilled tutelage of one of Gaeldom’s finest singers.

Other online events taking place today include a special online literature event with Ruairidh Maclean. Drawing on his recently published book, A Watery View: Place Names of Inverness and Surrounding Area, Ruairidh will take online audiences from the shores of Loch Ness to the bogs of Monadh Mor, in what promises to be an enlightening talk.

As always, in addition to the online events, there will be live music at Eden Court’s outdoor venue, today from 4pm - 6pm, programmed by Fèisean nan Gàidheal.

Looking forward to the rest of the week ahead, a highlight will be the premiere of Lauren MacColl’s new work ‘An Ear / East’ on Tuesday 12th of October. The piece is inspired by the coasts and waters around Inverness and the Black Isle, where the fiddler and composer was born and raised.

Featuring musical performances by Mairearad Green, Anna Massie and Rachel Newton, and songs from Arthur Cormack and Emma MacLeod, the evening promises to be a special and moving experience.

James Graham, Chief Executive Officer of An Comunn Gàidhealach, said: “After a busy weekend, we’re excited to keep the momentum going with today’s youth events. Young Gaelic speakers hold an incredibly significant role in the future of our community, and today shines a light on their abilities and achievements, with a range of events to support, encourage and champion them. We have already had an action-packed few days so far and there are a whole host of wonderful events yet to come this week that we look forward to welcoming audiences to.”

Shona MacLennan, Ceannard, Bòrd na Gàidhlig, said: “The Royal National Mòd provides an exciting and attractive range of events for all age groups. Its focus on young people is invaluable in encouraging youngsters to engage with Gaelic and have opportunities to use it in a fun environment. Gaelic learners, of all ages, are vital to the growth of the language and we congratulate An Comunn Gàidhealach for their work.”

The Royal National Mòd 2021 is taking place from Friday 8th – Saturday 16th October 2021 at Eden Court Theatre in Inverness. Using a hybrid approach, there are a combination of in-person concerts and competitions, as well as a dynamic schedule of online performances being broadcast throughout the week.

A number of COVID safety measures are in place for this year’s Mòd in line with government guidelines to keep audiences and performers safe, including extensive cleaning and ongoing COVID safety checks, enhanced hygiene measures, use of face masks and track and trace check-ins.

Highlights of the celebration will include major competitions An Comunn Gàidhealach Gold Medal final and the Traditional Gold Medal. There will also be unmissable performances from “the new sound of a traditional Scotland” Duncan Chisholm, fiddler Lauren MacColl, new outfit Staran, the famous Glenfinnan Ceilidh Band, the legendary Gaelic singer Margaret Stewart and many more.

The prestigious festival, which was founded in 1891, is supported by Bòrd na Gàidhlig, The Highland Council, EventScotland, The Scottish Government, HIE, Caledonian MacBrayne, The Inverness Common Good Fund and SQA.
