City tree trimming works
Tree trimming work will start on Wednesday (27 June) in response to complaints about overhanging branches along Dores Road and Island Bank Road, Inverness. The work, which will be carried out by a contractor on behalf of The Highland Council, will primarily concentrate on the section of Dores Road between Holm Roundabout and Holm Mills Road, although other problem sections along Island Bank Road will also be addressed.
The tree trimming works are expected to last for 5 to 10 days and during this time traffic management will be in place although only minor delays for drivers are expected.
The overhanging branches are causing problems particularly for bus and lorry drivers. These are roadside trees so the Council is arranging for the work to be done but under the terms of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 landowners and private householders have a duty to ensure that vegetation in their gardens does not obstruct public roads or footways and cause a danger to pedestrians, cyclists or passing vehicles. Failure for homeowners to carry out necessary pruning can result in legal action and the Council can recover the cost of carrying out the work..
The Council’s Recycling Centre at Henderson Drive, Inverness, will freely dispose of branches, while clippings and leaves can also go into home composting bins to be turned into compost for use in the garden or put in the brown recycling bins.
