Lochaber Civic Leader Appointed

The seven councillors serving Lochaber on The Highland Council have chosen Independent Councillor Allan Henderson, Caol and Mallaig (North Lochaber Ward) to be the new civic head of the area.

Councillor Henderson will be known as the Provost of Lochaber.

Councillor Henderson was unveiled as the new Provost at the first joint meeting of the Caol and Mallaig and Fort William and Ardnamurchan Ward Forums, held at the Caol Community Centre, on Monday night.

Councillor Henderson is one of three members representing the Caol and Mallaig Ward. His first duty was to chair the joint ward forum meeting.
 
He said “Having been born and brought up in Lochaber I am honoured and privileged to have been chosen to be the civic leader. We are a distinct and special area of the Highlands and it is important that we have a figurehead to front the major events that are held here.”
 
Among many other events Lochaber is hosting the National Mod this year as well as the World Cup mountain bike championships.
