Good progress being made on ELC capital works projects
The Council continues to make good progress on the remaining 19 ELC capital works projects as 7 of these projects are due to be complete in the next 2 months.
The projects due for completion by the end of this year are:
- Ardgour Primary School
- Avoch Primary School
- Ben Wyvis Primary School
- Gairloch primary – ELC provision
- Glenurquhart Gaelic Medium
- Reay Under 5s – Partner provision
- Shieldaig Primary Nursery
There remain some contingency or interim arrangements in place for some settings awaiting completion of capital works. However, all children/parents/carers can access 1140 should they wish to.
Highland is now delivering 1140 hours in 225 settings. This is represented by 147 local authority settings, 23 private providers, 28 voluntary sector partners and through 27 commissioned childminders. There are also 16 settings currently inactive, where there is not at present sufficient demand within the community.
16 ELC settings in Highland are offering Gaelic Medium provision to 295 children. A new Gaelic Medium service will also be opened in Glenurquhart which will deliver 1140 hours once renovations and alterations are complete in the school.
