Easter Ross Area Committee members approve investment in Seaboard Memorial Hall in Balintore

The Seaboard Memorial Hall in Tain has been allocated a grant of £5,000 thanks to the Tain and Easter Ross Place Based Fund.

A total of £100,000 for each ward was announced at Highland Council in March this year and was designed to address the four harms of COVID-19 – directs health harms; health impacts not directly related to COVID-19; societal impacts and economic impacts.

To date the Tain and Easter Ross Ward has contributed £2,500 to support the Nigg-Cromarty Ferry and the local economy has also allocated £20,000 towards play equipment.

Today’s report to the Easter Ross Area Committee recommended that members approve an additional award of £5,000 to the Seaboard Memorial Hall, which they unanimously agreed. The costs are to cover the increased building costs of the Harbour Toilet Refurbishment.

Chair of the Easter Ross Area Committee, Cllr Fiona Robertson, said: “This is a project which the Easter Ross Area Committee has previously supported via the Coastal Communities Fund.

“The harbour toilet is important to the local community and the economy and serves harbour users, visitors to the beach and the very well used community polytunnel nearby.

“We are delighted to be able to support the project and allow its successful completion.”

The work falls under the auspices of the Balintore Harbour Project. The Seaboard Memorial Hall submitted a successful application for £23,980 to the Coastal Communities Fund. The application was based on quotes received in January so the £5,000 of additional funding through the Place Based Fund is to cover unforeseen increases in building costs.
