City of Inverness Pipe Band Competition
The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association has announced details of the competitors for the City of Inverness Pipe Band Competition which will take place on July 21st at the Tulloch Inverness Highland Games.
A total of 22 Bands will take part in the competition which will start at 11.15am with the Grade 4 competition which will feature Scots College of New Zealand and Northern Constabulary Community Pipes and Drums Band who won the British Championship in Dumbarton last month.
The competitive piping will reach it’s climax around 4pm when the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards will face Grampian Police in the Grade 1 event.
The event will end with the Bands joining together for a spectacular massed pipe band performance in the main arena at 5.30pm following the conclusion of the first day’s events in the World Highland Games Heavy Championships.
Games Secretary Gerry Reynolds said “With a week to go before the European Pipe Band Championships are staged in Inverness, we are delighted that so many bands have decided to enter our competition and take the opportunity to familiarise themselves with Bught Park and give us a preview of their displays for the following weekend.”
“Entries for the European Pipe Band Championships have now closed and we have received confirmation that over 120 bands will be taking part and that there will be over 4500 bandsman performing on July 28th in the massed band that will be assembled at the end of the Europeans.”
