Highland Council winter road condition report for Thursday 6 January 2022

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Thursday 6 January 2022 are as follows:

Badenoch and Strathspey: Posted at 08:32. There are some localised icy patches with a widespread frost. Roads are being treated as necessary.

Nairn: Posted at 08:20. Dry/damp roads. Higher routes are being given a precautionary gritting. No known issues.

Caithness: Posted at 08:40. A mixture of dry and damp roads with some routes having a bit of white frost on high parts. There’s a dusting of snow in the Rumster Area. All routes being treated. No issues reported.

Ross and Cromarty: Posted at 08:03. Road surface temperatures higher than forecast this morning. There’s a mixture of dry and damp roads on primary and secondary routes which are all being treated including footpaths.

Lochaber: Posted at 08:51. Treatment carried out on all primary routes this morning. There are wintry showers on higher routes while lower routes are damp with light rain showers. No known issues.

Sutherland: Posted at 08:28. Dry /damp roads on lower routes while higher routes have a covering of snow. All routes are being treated including footpaths.

Skye and Raasay: Posted at 08:17. Wet and windy this morning with road surface temperatures higher than forecast. Primary Routes in North Skye are being treated. No known issues.

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh: Posted at 08:02. A mixed bag this morning of dry-damp-wet-snow covered roads across the area. No overnight issues reported, and treatment is currently ongoing.

Inverness: Posted at 07:53. A little warmer than expected this morning. Treatment running on all routes and footpaths. No known issues
