The Met Office has issued a Yellow Weather Warning

With overnight drops in temperature, winter gritting continues today. Maps of the Council’s gritting routes by priority and policy are available online at https://www.highland.gov.uk/gritting

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area earlier today.

It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

A Yellow Warning for Snow and Ice has been issued by the Met Office for much of Highland region between today (Friday 4 February) and Sunday 6 February 2022. Check out the latest -

Motorists are urged to drive according to the conditions and to take care.

Road condition reports for Friday, 4 February 2022 from 7.33am onwards were as follows (conditions may have deteriorated due to falling snow since):

Sutherland (at 08.34am)

A light covering of snow on all routes up to 3'' on top of Struie hill, all routes been bladed & treated including footpaths, heavy wintery showers.

Lochaber (at 08:33am)

Wintry showers throughout with some snow accumulations on higher routes, treatment was ongoing throughout the morning

Skye and Raasay (at 08:33am)

Localised icy patches where hail/sleet showers remain though the night. Treatment ongoing on Primary & Secondary Routes.

Ross and Cromarty (at 08:32am)

Light dusting of snow lower ground and slippy in places. Higher ground up to 2 inches of snow. All routes covered this morning along with footpaths.

Caithness (at 08:17am)

Light snow showers on all routes, ongoing treatment and blading on some inland roads

Badenoch and Strathspey (07:51am)

Frosty/icy patches on roads in north end of area, dusting of snow in south end - roads being treated as necessary.

Lochalsh and Wester Ross (at 07:50am)

A mixture of conditions earlier this morning. Generally lower-level roads are damp with marginal temperatures. Higher routes having a dusting to 3" snow with snow showers continuing. All roads being treated with a medium to heavy salting, treatment on-going. No issues reported overnight.

Nairn (at 07:33am)

Icy patches and a dusting of snow on high level roads. Main routes and bus routes being treated as necessary.
