Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh area road capital programme approved for 2022/23

Members of the Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh Area Committee today approved the area road capital programme for 2022/23.

The local allocations capital budget for 2022/23 remains to be established which will be calculated from the approved capital budget allocation being adjusted for any acceleration or slippage in the previous financial year for each area allocation, and also analysis of the road condition survey results.

The 2022/23 area capital roads programme is based on the previous year’s budget, which is unlikely to vary significantly from the established budget that will not be determined until early Summer. Should the approved 2022/23 budget differ from the 2021/22 budget then the programme will be adjusted as appropriate.

The Ross and Cromarty budget has not been disaggregated to Easter Ross Area; Black Isle, Dingwall and Seaforth Area; and Wester Ross Strathpeffer and Lochalsh Area.

As Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh Area have a total of 48% of the road length in the former Ross and Cromarty area, this capital programme is based on 48% of the 2022/23 Ross and Cromarty Area Capital budget. Adjusting for accelerated spend, this amounts to £600,000 and includes the Ward Allocation budget which is set at £100,000 per ward.

Among the priorities for the Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh area capital programme are the following works:

  • Approximately 2,930m of surface dressing on the A890 Auchtertyre – the dam
  • 3,332m of surface dressing on the A835 Drumrunnie
  • Around 5,000m of surface dressing on the A896 Torridon to Kinlochewe road
  • 2,000m of surface dressing on the A890 Stromeferry viewpoint East

Over lay works are also planned for the U3119 Tarvie Township Road and the U3393 Rhue Road. And underlay works planned for the C1232 Kyle section 2 and 3.

Chair of the Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh Area Committee, Cllr Ian Cockburn, said: “The road structural maintenance programme schemes include approved capital schemes that remain to be completed and in terms of prioritised ranking of the road network.

“Prioritised ranking was prepared using Scottish Road Maintenance Condition Survey (SRMCS) data, safety inspections, service inspections and input and feedback from Ward Members.”
