Badenoch and Strathspey Area Committee members agree Area Roads Capital Programme for 2022/23

Members today agreed the Area Roads Capital Programme for Badenoch and Strathspey for 2022/23.

The local allocations capital budget for 2022/23 remains to be established which will be calculated from the approved capital budget allocation being adjusted for any acceleration or slippage in the previous financial year for each area allocation, and also analysis of the road condition survey results.

Consequently the 2022/23 area capital roads programme is based on the previous year’s budget, which is unlikely to vary significantly from the established budget that will not be determined until early Summer.

The capital budget for 2021/22 for the Badenoch and Strathspey area totals £765,309.

Should the approved 2022/23 budget differ from the 2021/22 budget then the programme will be adjusted as appropriate.

Cllr Bill Lobban, Chair of the Badenoch and Strathspey Area Committee, said: “For many, many years and through many Council Administration terms our roads infrastructure has been underfunded.

“We clearly need to invest more in our infrastructure and whilst today’s programme is very welcome, we need to increase the money we allocate for roads.”

Among the works approved today by Members are:

  • Surface dressing on the B9152 Kingussie – Lynchat road, the B9150 Newtonmore to A9, areas within the inner and outer loop of the Braes of Castle Grant and the U2008 Achnahannet.
  • Overlay works on the C1137 Glentrium (three remaining sections), six locations on the U2347 & U2351 Braes of Castle Grant roads.
  • Overlay, structural drainage, patching, jetpatching and structural maintenance on the U2347 at Tombain and various other locations on that route.
  • Seafield Avenue in Grantown on Spey is also in line for new footway inlay works.
