Highland Council winter road condition report for Monday, 21 February 2022

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Monday, 21 February are as follows:

Badenoch and Strathspey: Posted at 08:05 - Negative temperatures throughout the area this morning with a bit of snow on the roads. Primary and secondary routes being treated. No known overnight issues.

Caithness: Posted at 08:23 – In-land roads impacted by black ice and frozen slush.  East-coast not impacted to the same extent.  All roads and footpaths being treated.  Car accident at Bower B876 just as gritter was passing the area.  No other issues reported.

Inverness: Posted at 05:50 – Low-ground roads are wet, 1 inch covering of wet snow on high roads.  Gritters heading out on routes.

Lochaber: Posted at 05:59 - Positive road surface temperatures. Area affected by heavy rain and strong winds.  No reported issues.

Nairn: Posted at 08:00 - Borderline temperatures throughout the area with wet roads.  No know overnight issues.

Ross and Cromarty: Posted at 07:44 - Primary routes have occasional sparkle and icy patches with standing water, higher sections still reporting inch of hard-packed snow.  Secondary routes and higher dusting to 1 and a half inches of snow.  All being treated as necessary.  No overnight issues reported.

Skye and Raasay: Posted at 08:25 -     No action required.  Positive road surface temperatures throughout area.  No issues reported overnight.

Sutherland: Posted at 08:29 - Mainly wet roads on lower ground with an odd sparkle in places.  Icy patches and very icy stretches in shelter and on higher roads.  Some roads have a covering of slush / snow with up to an inch of snow on the Struie, treatment ongoing as necessary in accordance with policy.

Wester Ross & Lochalsh: Posted at 08:38 - Black wet roads across the area this morning.  Selected routes treated.  Nothing reported overnight.
