Actions for attainment
Collaborative engagement sessions are planned with Head Teachers to raise attainment and achievement in Highland primary schools.
Education Chair, Cllr John Finlayson said: “Improving attainment and achievement is one of our priorities and while this is important, we must also recognise and celebrate the hard work that is currently being undertaken in our schools. The planned engagement sessions with Head Teachers are a good way forward in making sure that we are building on the excellent practice currently found in schools to further improve achievement and attainment for all. I also welcome and encourage local member feedback in the planned engagement ward attainment meetings that is to take place, to better understand and meet the individuality of local contexts across the region”.
Raising attainment and achievement in schools is one of four main key drivers in the Council’s agreed strategic action plan.
All Primary and secondary staff will be offered standardised Quality Assurance Moderation Support Officer (QAMSO) training led by the National Improvement Advisor. This will ensure that associated school groups and officers have a shared understanding in Highland in regard to professional judgements against benchmarks and aims. Collaborative lead officers will continue to support and challenge all of our schools with a specific focus on attainment and safeguarding where good practice will be shared and highlighted to identify next steps.
Schools will be supported by the Council’s range of nationally trained Quality Assurance Moderation Support Officers.
