Inverness Highland Games are back for 2022

Issued on behalf of High Life Highland

The City of Inverness Highland Games is back for 2022 and celebrating its 200th anniversary.

Following a two-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Inverness Highland Games will take place on Saturday, July 16 at Bught Park, Inverness, funded by the Inverness Common Good Fund.

With this year marking the event’s bi-centenary, Inverness Highland Games Committee Chairman Angus Dick said: “We are very excited to be bringing back the Inverness Highland Games for such a special year in 2022.

“The games have always been a real highlight of the summer event season in Inverness, and we are all very much looking forward to welcoming back not only our local event partners, competitors and communities, but people from right across the world to the city’s Bught Park this July.

“This year’s event is set to be a fun-filled day out for all the family, showcasing the traditional competitive events and displays we all enjoy at a Highland Games and have very much missed these last two years, including the magnificent Heavies, track and field athletics, pipes and drums and Highland Dancing.”

High Life Highland has been working closely with the Inverness Highland Games Committee and the city’s Events and Festivals Working Group to plan this years’ event.

High Life Highland Events Manager Amy MacLeod said: “Over the years, Inverness has seen some fantastic Highland Games and despite This being an extremely challenging time of recovery for the event sector, we want 2022 to be no different. We are therefore delighted to confirm that the Inverness Highland Games are back.

“The day will provide us a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the very best Inverness and the wider Highlands has to offer, and we invite prospective traders, exhibitors, stallholders, local businesses and charities to get in touch for the opportunity to showcase the very best in food, drink, craft, retail and entertainment to both local and international attendees of the event.”

It was back in 1822 that the Society of Northern Meeting provided financial help for a Highland Games to be held in the Inverness area.

The Northern Meeting's own park in Ardross Street was opened in 1864 and the Games were held there for the next 70 years.

Today, the revived Highland Games are held in Bught Park and are supported by the Inverness Common Good Fund.

The Games are delivered by High Life Highland on behalf of The Highland Council’s Inverness Events and Festivals Working Group.
