Journey to Work Event next week in Inverness

The Highland Council’s Employability Service are pleased to be partnering with the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) to support Amey with their Journey to Work Event that takes place in Inverness next week.

Whether you’re searching for work, looking to change jobs or need support writing your CV, the drop-in event taking place in the Eastgate Shopping Centre from 10am to 2pm on Wednesday 22 June will provide the help you need.

Chair of The Highland Council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee, Cllr Ken Gowans encourages people to come along. He said: “This event next Wednesday in the Eastgate Centre is a great chance for anyone considering a change in career or looking for their first job to find out about what opportunities are available and get expert advice and top tips on finding a job they can enjoy and do well in. It’s informal, so there is no need to book, just drop in when you can anytime between 10am and 2pm.”

Kim Douglas, Employability Officer for the Highland Councils Employability Team said: “Highland Employability Service are pleased to be partnering with DWP to support Amey with their Journey to Work event at Eastgate shopping Centre. Our employability team will be on hand to signpost jobseekers towards opportunities available and, through our service, support them to apply and prepare for work in this sector. Should there be a successful outcome into work then we will continue to offer in work support to ensure it is sustainable.”

Amey is working with local Scottish councils to host a number Journey to Work events, for those looking for work or in need of some top tips to help them into employment.

Karen Hopley, People Director for Transport Infrastructure at Amey, said: “We understand that finding work can be incredibly difficult, that’s why we’ve put together a day event to help provide local people with the skills and support needed to get them back into work. Working in collaboration with local authorities and recruitment agencies, we’ll be sharing current vacancies, which people can apply for on the day, as well as sharing tips and techniques to empower and support them on their journey to work.” 

Ann Dowd, Employer and Partnership Manager Inverness Jobcentre Plus added: “Jobcentre Plus is delighted to support Amey and Highland Employability Services for the Journey to Work campaign to help people into work. These events are a brilliant way for people to find out about all the support that’s on offer to get in to a new career and we’d encourage people to come along/speak to their work coach for more information. We’ll have Jobcentre staff on hand at the event to provide loads of useful information.”
