Unlocking the Outdoor Classroom

A very successful ‘Unlocking the Outdoor Classroom’ training day took place at
Glen Nevis on Thursday 8th March. The event, which was fully booked, attracted educators come from all over Scotland.

Staff from the John Muir Trust, John Muir Award, Forestry Commission, Lochaber Geopark, National Trust (Glencoe), Scottish Natural Heritage and The Highland Council Countryside Rangers held a number of workshops throughout the day highlighting the exciting and imaginative learning opportunities the great outdoors can offer.

During the day participants had the chance to join in with a range of environmental activities, giving everyone a fun opportunity to see the resources that can be linked to the curriculum for 5 to 14 and the Curriculum for Excellence.

The Highland Council’s Glen Nevis Ranger Jennie Abell who organised the event with Elanor Gordon of CSV Action 4 Sustainability was delighted the day had gone so well.  She said: “I would like to thank all the organisations involved in the day which proved to be very popular with participants coming from all over Scotland.  Feedback we have received about the course is very positive and I am sure everyone who came along will feel inspired to extend their classrooms to include more opportunities to teach outdoors.”
