Critters at Latheronwheel

Latheronwheel was the meeting place for the Caithness Critters last weekend.

The group met up with Highland Council’s Countryside Ranger, Lindsey Duncan to hunt for signs of spring in this lovely woodland.  They also took part in a seashore scavenger hunt on the beach and learnt about some of the goings on in Latheronwheel over the years.

Caithness Critters is an environmental group for children run by Rangers with The Highland Council's Planning and Development Service. The group meets every month to learn about nature and wildlife around the county. The team of nature detectives enjoyed meandering through the beautiful woodland while hunting any signs of spring.  Last month the Critters became nature detectives and discovered who’d been around before them. Dunnet beach was the site for these activities.

Lindsey Duncan, 'Caithness Critter' leader and The Highland Council's East Caithness Ranger said: “It’s wonderful to have such enthusiastic young nature lovers involved in a group like this. They learn all sorts of things about nature and the environment and it is also gives them a chance to make new friends.”
