Kyleakin one-way system approved by Skye and Raasay Area Committee

A special meeting of the Skye and Raasay Area Committee was held yesterday (Monday 27 February 2023) and approved the Kyleakin one-way system on the U4887 Kyleakin (Link Road) and U4885 Kyleakin (W. Side King’s Arms), Kyleakin.

The Council carried out all statutory consultations including writing to local residents and businesses to advise them of the proposed one-way system. One objection was received during the public consultation, the grounds for this objection are as follows:-

  • The proposal for the One-way System and associated footpath on the U4887 Kyleakin (Link Road) will remove the ability to park on the street.

A summary of reply to the objection is as follows:-

  • There is alternative parking to the U8445 Kyleakin Link Road, the property in question has off street parking in the form of a private driveway and there is also on street parking available on the A850 Kyleside.

As the objection was outstanding, the Traffic Regulation Order report was brought to a Special Committee to seek approval.

Skye and Raasay Area Committee Chair, Cllr John Finlayson said: “Having received the report and the outline of the objection, the Committee agreed that mitigation was in place for resident parking and therefore unanimously approved the one-way traffic order.

“The one-way system aims to alleviate congestion and create a safer road environment for motorists and pedestrians. Following the introduction of the traffic order, monitoring of the one-way system including commissioning a traffic survey to determine effectiveness of the new road layout will be carried out.”
