Highland winter road conditions report – Monday, 6 March 2023

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Monday, 6 March 2023 are as follows:

Sutherland – (as at 08:59)

Sleat and snow on the higher ground. All routes being treated (ongoing). All roads are passable. No issues reported overnight.

Lochaber – (as at 08:17)

Temperatures higher than forecast. No issues reported overnight.

Skye and Lochalsh (as at 08:28)

Light sleety showers. Primary & Secondary routes being treated.

Caithness (as at 08:04)

Mainly wet roads with some frozen sleet on higher parts of routes. No issues reported overnight.  

Easter Ross (as at 06:11)

Higher temperature than forecast this morning. all Primary & Secondary routes being treated ahead of forecast weather. No known overnight issues.

Badenoch and Strathspey (as at 07:34)

Wet roads this morning with some sleet showers. Primary and Secondary routes being treated. No known overnight issues.

Nairn (as at 07:33)

Wet roads throughout the area. Primary and Secondary routes being treated. No issues reported overnight.

Inverness (as at 07:42)

Higher temperature than forecast this morning, treating all Primary and Secondary routes in advance of forecast weather. No issues reported overnight.

Weather warnings

A Met Office yellow weather warning (external link) for snow and ice for Monday 6, Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 March 2023.

On Monday 6 March, a band of rain, sleet and snow is expected to move south during Monday followed by frequent snow and hail showers.
