Highland winter road conditions report – Wednesday, 8 March 2023

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Wednesday, 8 March 2023 are as follows:

Sutherland – (as at 08:26)

A lot of snow cover on the north & west coastal routes and some inland routes with up to 4 inches on some high ground, mostly dry roads on the east coast with low temperatures throughout. Primary routes treated as priority with Secondary routes being treated as per policy. No known overnight issues. Driver caution advised on all routes.

Lochaber – (as at 07:52)

Below zero temperatures. Roads dry/damp with Primary and Secondary routes being treated to top-up salt levels. No problems on road network. No other known issues. Driver caution advised on all routes.

Skye and Lochalsh (as at 08:29)

Dry roads with a fresh dusting of snow overnight. Road temperatures dropping to -6 this morning. Gritting ongoing and running by priority. No overnight issues to report. Driver caution advised on all routes.

Caithness (as at 08:54)

Very low temperatures this morning, all Primary and Secondary routes being treated (ongoing). No overnight issues reported. Driver caution advised on all routes.

Easter Ross (as at 08:00)

Very low temperatures both air and road surface temperatures (RST’s) this morning. Frosty conditions but dry roads throughout the network. No overnight issues reported. Driver caution advised on all routes.

Badenoch and Strathspey (as at 07:33)

Roads mainly dry with some frost and ice patches. All routes being treated this morning with priority given to Primary and Secondary routes. No known overnight issues. Driver caution advised on all routes.

Nairn (as at 07:32)

Dry roads throughout the area. Low temperatures. All routes being treated with priority given to Primary and Secondary routes. No known overnight issues.

Inverness (as at 07:49)

Roads mostly dry this morning with high salt levels, Primary and Secondary routes being treated. No known issues reported overnight.
