Highland winter road conditions report - Friday 10 March

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.
Road condition reports for Friday, 10 March 2023 are as follows:
Lochaber – (as at 06:51)
Zero temperatures. Dry roads, no treatment required. No problems on Lochaber roads reported. No known overnight issues.
Nairn – (as at 07:25)
Dry roads with negative temperatures throughout the area. No winter action needed and no known overnight issues.
Badenoch and Strathspey (as at 07:28)
Dry roads with negative temperatures thorughout the area. Routes 4 and 5 being treated this morning due to snowfall overnight. No known overnight issues.
Wester Ross (as at 07:31)
Low temperatures with snow covering. treatment ongoing. No overnight issues reported.
Ross and Cromarty (as at 07:58)
Low temperatures but a dry, frosty morning. Current salt levels holding network this morning.
Caithness (as at 08:10)
Low temperatures again this morning with a fresh covering of snow falling. All weeked route treatments ongoing at present, caution to be advised while driving on all routes this morning. No known overnight issues to report.
Sutherland (as at 08:32)
Low temperatures throughout with snow cover up to 4" on the North west coast. Routes all bladed and treated accordingly. Secondary routes treated as resources permit. East of Lairg/Ardgay - damp/dry roads, no treatment required. No known overnight issues.
Inverness (as at 09:38)
Damp roads this morning. Ran strategic routes to top-up salt levels. No known issues.
Isle of Skye and Raasay (as at 08:57)
Dry overnight with temperatures dropping to -6.5C this morning. Morning treatments running across all routes. Light snow cover across some North Skye routes. South Skye routes clear this morning. No overnight issues to report.

There are several schools with delayed openings and one school closed in the Highlands today due to the weather. Please note that the page is updated from 8am and cleared each evening by 6pm.
Weather warnings
A Met Office yellow weather warning for snow and ice is effective until 10am this morning. A further yellow warning for snow and ice has been issued for Saturday (11 March) from 3pm to Sunday (12 March) 6am.
