Bidh Seachdain nan Teaghlach, an tachartas ionnsachaidh bliadhnail a tha air a chur air dòigh le Sabhal Mòr Ostaig agus Comhairle na Gàidhealtachd, a' tilleadh dhan Eilean Sgitheanach 10–14 Iuchar 2023.

'S e seo a' chiad uair an dèidh COVID-19 a bhios an tachartas seo air ais air làrach Shabhal Mòr Ostaig: 19 bliadhna on a thòisich a' chiad tachartas de leithid ann an 2004, agus 50 bliadhna on a chaidh Sabhal Mòr Ostaig a stèidheachadh ann an 1973.

Tha an tachartas fad-seachdain seo fosgailte do theaghlaichean aig a bheil clann ann am Foghlam tro Mheadhan na Gàidhlig (bun-sgoil no sna tràth-bhliadhnaichean), is e a' toirt cothrom do phàrantan cùrsa cànain Shabhal Mòr Ostaig a fhrithealadh fhad 's a tha an cuid chloinne a' gabhail pàirt ann an tachartasan leithid spòrs, ealain is ionnsachadh air a' bhlàr a-muigh tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig.

Thuirt Prionnsapal Shabhal Mòr Ostaig, an Dtr Gillian Rothach:

"Tha sinn a' dèanamh fiughair mhòr ri fàilte chridheil a chur air teaghlaichean dhan t-Sabhal Mhòr airson Seachdain nan Teaghlach. Gabhaidh clann is pàrantan pàirt ann am prògram beòthail, spòrsail de chlasaichean is chur-seachadan ann an àrainneachd àlainn Ghàidhlig aig Sabhal Mòr Ostaig san Eilean Sgitheanach. Gheibh iad sàr-chothroman air ionnsachadh is spòrs, agus taic am measg chàirdean, ann an coimhearsnachd de theaghlaichean Gàidhlig."

Thuirt an Comhairliche Calum Rothach, Cathraiche Comataidh Gàidhlig Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd:

"Tha mi fìor thoilichte gum bi Seachdain nan Teaghlach air a cumail ann an suidheachadh coimhearsnachd aig Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, san Eilean Sgitheanach, san Iuchar am-bliadhna. Tha an tachartas a' toirt cothrom do theaghlaichean a tha an lùib Foghlam tron Ghàidhlig air feadh Alba na sgilean Gàidhlig aca a leasachadh, an dà chuid ann an suidheachadh neo-fhoirmeil agus oideachail. Tha cothrom aig pàrantan a dhol gu clasaichean Gàidhlig fhad 's a bhios a' chlann a' dol gu sgeama-cluiche a tha a' tabhann prògram thachartasan Gàidhlig a leithid spòrs, dràma agus ionnsachadh air a' bhlàr a-muigh. Tha am pròiseact air a bhith soirbheachail bhon a chaidh a stèidheachadh an toiseach ann an 2004, agus 's e deagh eisimpleir a th' ann air obrachadh com-pàirteach eadar Comhairle na Gàidhealtachd agus Sabhal Mòr Ostaig – rud a tha air a rèiteach sa Mheòrachan Thuigse eadar an dà bhuidhinn."

Family Learning Week in the Isle of Skye

10–14 of July 2023

Seachdain nan Teaghlach, the longstanding Gaelic Family Learning Week organised by Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and The Highland Council, is set to return to the Isle of Skye 10–14 July 2023.

This event is returning to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig for the first time since the pandemic, 19 years since the first event of its kind took place in 2004, and 50 years since Sabhal Mòr Ostaig was founded in 1973.

Parents of children in Gaelic Medium Education (primary school or early years) are given the opportunity to attend Sabhal Mòr Ostaig's popular language courses while their children take part in a wide range of sports, arts and outdoor education activities through the medium of Gaelic.

Dr Gillian Munro Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Principal commented:

"We are so looking forward to welcoming families to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig for Family Learning Week. Parents and children will take part in a lively and fun programme of classes and activities in our immersive Gaelic campus in the beautiful Isle of Skye. They will have fantastic opportunities to learn and make new friends in a community of Gaelic families."

Councillor Calum Munro Chair of The Highland Council Gaelic Committee said:

"I am delighted that the Seachdain nan Teaghlach event will take place in a community setting at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig in the Isle of Skye in July this year. The event enables Gaelic medium families throughout Scotland to develop their Gaelic language skills in both an informal and educational setting. Gaelic medium parents are provided with the opportunity to attend Gaelic language classes while the children attend a Gaelic playscheme which offers a programme of Gaelic activities such as sports, drama, and outdoor learning. The project has been a successful initiative since it was first established in 2004 and is a great example of partnership working between The Highland Council and Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, which is ratified in the Memorandum of Understanding between both organisations."

In 2019, 31 families (41 adults; 57 children) from across the highlands, islands and central belt took part, and all spoke enthusiastically about the benefits of learning and playing in a Gaelic-speaking environment at the National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture in Sleat, South Skye.

Applications can be submitted via the Sabhal Mòr Ostaig website: www.smo.uhi.ac.uk/snt23
