Ball-coise Soirbheachail a’ Tilleadh dhan Eilean Sgitheanach
Ball-coise Soirbheachail a’ Tilleadh dhan Eilean Sgitheanach
A’ leantainn air adhart bho champa ball-coise Gàidhlig fìor shoirbheachail san Eilean Sgitheanach sa Ghiblean an-uiridh, bha Sgioba Gàidhlig Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd toilichte obrachadh ann an com-pàirteachas a-rithist le FC Sonas gus tachartas ball-coise Gàidhlig trì-latha a chur air dòigh ann am Port Rìgh tro shaor-làithean na Càisge. Bha an campa ball-coise Gàidhlig fosgailte do sgoilearan ann am Foghlam tron Ghàidhlig (FtG) san Eilean Sgitheanach.
Bha mòran an làthair aig an tachartas shoirbheachail seo a chaidh a chumail aig Àrd-Sgoil Phort Rìgh agus suas ri 50 neach òg bho FtG a’ gabhail pàirt ann. Bha na seiseanan coidsidh air an stiùireadh le Calum MacFhearghais, le taic bho thriùir choidsichean òga: Iain MacCarmaig a bha na sgoilear ann an Àrd-Sgoil Phort Rìgh; agus Sadie NicDhòmhnaill agus Beth NicDhòmhnaill a tha an-dràsta san Àrd-Sgoil.
Thuirt Calum MacFhearghais bho FC Sonas, “Bha FC Sonas fìor thoilichte tilleadh dhan Eilean Sgitheanach a-rithist am-bliadhna airson campa na Càisge. Às dèidh soirbheachas na bliadhna an-uiridh, tha clàrachadh am measg nan cluicheadairean air a dhol suas bho 40 gu 48 am-bliadhna. Tha sinn taingeil airson taic leantainneach Sgioba Gàidhlig Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd agus tha sinn a’ coimhead air adhart ri tuilleadh chothroman airson com-pàirt a ghabhail le coimhearsnachdan ionadail tro chleasan ball-coise sa Ghàidhlig.”
Thuirt an Comhairliche Calum Rothach, Cathraiche Comataidh na Gàidhlig, “Tha mi moiteil gun robh Sgioba Gàidhlig Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd ag obair ann an com-pàirteachas le FC Sonas gus dàrna campa ball-coise Gàidhlig a chur air adhart san Eilean Sgitheanach. Tha e riatanach gum bi cothroman aig ar n-òigridh pàirt a ghabhail ann an cleasan spòrs taobh a-muigh a’ churraicealaim, air an lìbhrigeadh sa Ghàidhlig sna coimhearsnachdan aca fhèin.” Lean e air adhart, “Tha e cuideachd na adhbhar misneachd gun robh sgoilearan Gàidhlig Àrd-Sgoil Phort Rìgh a’ toirt taic do sgoilearan òga FtG tro na seiseanan coidsidh fad trì làithean a' champa agus tha mi an dòchas gun tog seo misneachd am measg na h-òigridh gu bhith a’ cleachdadh na Gàidhlig.”
Successful Gaelic Football Camp returns to Skye
Following on from a very successful Gaelic Football camp in Skye last April, Highland Council’s Gaelic team were delighted to work in partnership again with FC Sonas again to deliver a three-day Gaelic football event in Portree in the Easter holidays. The Gaelic football camp was open to Gaelic medium pupils throughout Skye.
The very successful event was well attended at Portree High School with up to 50 Gaelic medium youngsters participating in the football camp. The coaching sessions were led by Calum Ferguson, along with support from three young coaches; Iain Cormack, a former pupil at Portree high school and two of whom are currently Gaelic secondary pupils at Portree High school; Sadie MacDonald and Beth MacDonald.
Calum Ferguson, FC Sonas said: “FC Sonas were delighted to be able to return to the Isle of Skye for a second consecutive Easter holiday camp. Following on from the success of last year, we seen player registration rise from an impressive 40 to 48 this year. With thanks to the ongoing support of Highland Council’s Gaelic Team we are looking forward to further opportunities to engage the local communities through Gaelic based football activities.”
Cllr Calum Munro, chair of the Gaelic committee said: “I am delighted that the Council’s Gaelic Team worked in partnership with FC Sonas to deliver a second Gaelic football camp in the Isle of Skye. It is vital for our Gaelic young people to have opportunities to participate in extra -curricular sporting activities that are delivered through the medium of Gaelic within their own communities.”
He continued, “It is also very encouraging to hear that Gaelic secondary pupils from Portree High School were supporting their younger Gaelic medium peers through the football coaching sessions during the three-day football camp and I hope that this will increase young people’s confidence to use their Gaelic.”
