Inverness playparks to improve with repurpose funding

Inverness Councillors have agreed to allocate over £15,000 to help improve play parks in 4 Inverness Wards.

A total £15,295 will be repurposed from COVID-19 funds to enable the Council’s Amenity Services to carry out repairs and improvements to play parks in the following Wards:

• Ward 12 – Aird and Loch Ness (£1,145) across 5 play parks at Braeview (Beauly), Balmacaan Road (Drumnadrochit), Abertaff (Fort Augustus) and Jenkins park play area and skatepark also in Fort Augustus and Kirkhill play area.
• Ward 14 – Inverness Central (£2,000) across 3 play parks at Anderson Street, Bellfield Park and Benula Road.

• Ward 16 – Inverness Millburn (£1,800) across 2 play parks Eight Acres playing field and Grebe Avenue play area.

• Ward 17 – Culloden and Ardersier (£10,350) across 5 play parks – two play areas at Smithton, Cameron Drive (Ardersier), Culloden playing field play area and Ardcroy Road, Croy.

It was agreed at a meeting of the Highland Council on 7 January 2021 that Wards with unspent COVID-19 funds could decide to spend this on projects that would assist children and adults post-COVID, especially within deprived areas. 

Leader of Inverness and Area Cllr Ian Brown said: “We are delighted to have been able to approve the repurposing of funds from the COVID-19 fund and to allocate this towards play parks. Supporting young people and families in these cash-strapped recovery times is very important for those that need play facilities close to home. We hope that these repairs and improvements to play areas will make a difference in local communities.”
