Pupils challenged to get creative with logo design competition
Pupils from Highland secondary schools are being invited to take part in a competition to create a logo to promote the 2023 Community Council elections.
The winner, selected by a judging panel, will see their design on ballot papers, nomination forms and widely used to promote the elections on social media and the Council’s website. They will also receive 6 months High Life Highland membership and the runner-up prize is 3 months membership with a goodie bag.
Currently there are 156 community councils operating across the Highlands and the elections later in 2023 will affect all of these groups.
Modern Apprentice Kyle Manson who works with The Highland Council’s election team said: “This competition is aimed at getting young people to be creative and to come up with designs that will change and modernise the face of Community Council elections.”

“Community Councils are voluntary organisations that express the views and concerns of local people within their area across a wide range of issues from new buildings and roads to local services and facilities. Some pupils across the Highlands sit as members on community councils and it would be great to see more young people get involved and represent their community.”
Kyle, a former pupil of Thurso High School who was short-listed for the Council’s Apprentice of the Year added: “This is a great chance, especially for anyone working on a portfolio for art and graphic design to get their work recognised. I know how talented and creative young people are, so I am looking forward to seeing the entries come in.”
Information about the logo competition has been circulated to all schools and the closing date for entries is Friday 30 June.
The timetable for the Community Council 2023 election starts with the publication of notice on Monday 4 September 2023 with the last date for lodging nomination papers 12 noon on Tuesday 3 October 2023.
