Tha Plana Gàidhlig 2023–28 ùraichte is neartaichte airson Comhairle na Gàidhealtachd a’ gealltainn taic a chur ri amasan farsaing Plana Nàiseanta na Gàidhlig a thaobh a bhith a’ cur taic ri cleachdadh is ionnsachadh na Gàidhlig.

An-diugh (29mh Ògmhios 2023) dh’aontaich Làn Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd am Plana Gàidhlig ùraichte, mar a chaidh a chur a-steach gu Bòrd na Gàidhlig. Chaidh am Plana ullachadh taobh a-staigh frèam Achd na Gàidhlig (Alba) 2005.

Tha am Plana a’ togail air obair fhada, chom-pàirteach is shoirbheachail Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd agus a’ comharrachadh na thathar a’ dèanamh mar-thà gus a’ Ghàidhlig a bhrosnachadh is a neartachadh. Thathar a’ dèanamh seo tro ghrunn dhòighean a leithid dearbh-aithne chorporra, obair ann an coimhearsnachdan ionadail, agus ann am foghlam Gàidhlig a tha air a thabhann ann am prìomh àiteachan air feadh na Gàidhealtachd.

Thuirt Ceannard Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd, an Comhairliche Raymond Bremner, “Tha am Plana a’ mìneachadh ro-innleachd airson mar a leanas a’ Chomhairle air adhart a’ togail air an obair a rinneadh roimhe gus cànan, cultar is dualchas na Gàidhlig a leasachadh thairis air na còig bliadhna a tha romhainn ann an sgìre Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd. Tha dealas aig a’ Chomhairle do bhith a’ neartachadh is ag adhartachadh a cuid obrach gus taic a chur ri cànan is cultar na Gàidhlig. Tha sinn a’ coimhead air adhart ri bhith a’ neartachadh nan dàimhean leantainneach againn le prìomh bhuidhnean Gàidhlig eile gus taic a chur ri bhith a’ lìbhrigeadh nan gealltanasan, mar a tha air am mìneachadh sa Phlana ùraichte.”

Thuirt an Comhairliche Calum Rothach, Cathraiche Comataidh na Gàidhlig, “Tha dreuchd chudromach air a bhith aig Comataidh na Gàidhlig ann a bhith a’ dèanamh cinnteach gu bheil am Plana a’ coinneachadh nan riatanasan reachdail fhad ’s a tha e fhathast ùr-ghnàthach is ruigsinneach. Bha tachartasan-tadhail fìor shoirbheachail againn ann am prìomh choimhearsnachdan Gàidhlig agus bha mòran daoine an làthair, ach rinn sinn cinnteach cuideachd gun robh sinn a’ dèanamh deagh fheum de theicneòlasan didseatach airson freagairtean suirbhidh a’ cho-chomhairleachaidh fhaotainn air-loidhne.”

Lean e air adhart, “Chaidh an obair a tha sinn a’ dèanamh ann an coimhearsnachdan air feadh na Gàidhealtachd gus taic is neart a chur ris a’ Ghàidhlig aithneachadh tron cho-chomhairleachadh phoblach. ’S e an t-amas againn dèanamh cinnteach gu bheil a’ Ghàidhlig air a h-aithneachadh mar sho-mhaoin agus gu bheil i a’ cur ri sunnd cultarach, eaconamach is sòisealta na Gàidhealtachd.”

Highland Council endorses the draft Gaelic Language Plan

A refreshed and reinvigorated Gaelic Language Plan 2023 – 28 for The Highland Council pledges to support the National Gaelic Language Plan’s overarching aims of supporting the use and learning of Gaelic.

The Full Highland Council today agreed (29th June 2023) the refreshed Gaelic Language Plan, as submitted to Bòrd na Gàidhlig. The Plan has been prepared within the framework of the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005.

The Plan builds upon the lengthy, engaging, and successful work of Highland Council and highlights its current practice to strengthen Gaelic, such as through corporate identity, the work undertaken in local communities and Gaelic education which is offered in key areas across the Highlands.

Highland Council Leader, Councillor Raymond Bremner said, “The Plan sets out a strategy for how the Council will continue to build upon previous work to develop the Gaelic language, culture and heritage over the next five years in the Highland Council area. The Council is committed to strengthening and progressing our operational activity to support Gaelic language and culture. We look forward to enhancing and continuing our relationships with other key Gaelic groups and organisations to support the delivery of the commitments, as laid out in the refreshed Plan.”

Councillor Calum Munro, Chair of the Gaelic Committee, said “The Gaelic Committee has taken a lead role in ensuring that the plan met statutory obligations whilst being innovative and accessible. We held some very successful and well-attended drop-in events in key Gaelic communities, but we also ensured that we maximised the use of digital technologies for the online consultation survey responses.”

He continued, “Our work in communities across Highland to support and strengthen Gaelic was recognised during the public consultation. Our aim is to ensure that Gaelic is recognised as an asset and enhances our cultural, economic and social wellbeing in the Highlands.”
