Sunday Concerts at Bellfield Park

A record number of concerts will be played this summer at the bandstand in Bellfield Park, Inverness as part of the Highland Year of Culture.

Since its opening in the year 2000, the bandstand, which commemorates aircrew who died flying from Highland airfields, has proven a popular venue for summer events.

The Highland Council has worked with the Inverness Project to put on a eighteen Sunday afternoon concerts which are free to the public running from 2-4pm. Donations are sometimes requested for charitable causes.

Inverness Gospel Choir will play on the 8th July and 9th September and the Crown Church Band, perform on the first Sunday of each month (June to September) and will play their new medley of Highland tunes, specially arranged by Gordon Tocher for the Year of Culture.

A Canadian band, Delta Music Makers from British Columbia, share the stage and indeed the grass with the Crown Church Band on 5 August. The visitors are delighted to be able to team up with a local band on their tour of Scotland.

The programme also includes traditional groups Inverness Fiddlers, Birl, Crazy Feet, TMC Folk and TMC Groupwork class, alongside Inverness Wind Band and Highland Swing.

Highland Council’s Arts Officer, Adrian Clark said: “We are hoping that with favourable weather, ‘Music in the Park’ will become an established Sunday afternoon activity this summer. With the play area, paddling pool for children and beautiful surroundings in the gardens, what better way to spend a Sunday afternoon?”

There are a limited number of chairs available on each day and the concerts are, subject to dry weather. Refreshments are available at the park kiosk where bookings can also be made for the tennis courts and putting green.
